Engineer Supervisor Geodetic Survey- Richmond, VA

VDOT’s Central Office – Location and Design Division is currently seeking an Engineer Supervisor Geodetic Survey for the Geospatial program. The selected candidate must be a licensed Land Surveyor or a Survey Photogrammetrist with experience in photogrammetry, route, GPS, boundary, and topographic surveys. The incumbent will perform professional-level work that is related to the development, integration, and implementation of survey deliverables inclusive of the Districts and Consultants in support of the Geospatial program. The primary duties will be to: maintain and update existing survey processes, training guides, and workflows as needed by the Districts and the Division; and perform a variety of analytical studies that are related to the development and implementation of the Geospatial Program, and evaluate alternatives, make recommendations and prepare technical reports for upper management. Other duties may include but are not limited to: analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving geospatial applications including GIS and GPS problems to include mobile systems; communicating with internal and external technical resources to resolve end-user issues; providing guidance to users on methods for correcting reported problems; automating processes and streamlining workflows using Carlson and Bentley software programming; working with cross-departmental teams utilizing GIS and/or data-driven technology in order to improve collaborative efforts in Survey, GIS and data visualization across the State; incorporating the use of aerial photography, LIDAR, and imagery; working with GIS to create maps, reports, and presentations in support of various GIS and technology projects; analyzing current geospatial system functions, procedures and capabilities to determine if improved methods are possible; developing and presenting proposals for new approaches and options to meet user needs; and implementing and coordinating with Districts on right of entry, survey policies and procedures.
 
Minimum Qualifications
Virginia Land Surveyor’s or Survey Photogrammetrist License required (*see below). Must have a valid driver’s license. Extensive knowledge of the theories, methods, practices, principles and instrumentation of land surveying and computations pertaining to route, geodetic, boundary, and topographic surveying. Knowledge of Professional land surveying principles and practices, APELSCIDLA Board rules and regulations. Extensive skill in the use of surveying equipment, computers and CADD. Demonstrated ability to use Bentley Microstation, Carlson SurvCE/PC, and Carlson Survey. Ability to perform mathematical and algebraic calculations. Ability to read, interpret and comprehend highway plans, contour maps and survey data. Ability to supervise and direct the work of others. Ability to apply algebra, trigonometry, geometry, least squares adjustment results and engineering statistics to survey data and visually verify data to avoid errors in computations. Ability to interpret technical data and prepare detailed reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and work independently as needed.
 
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from college or university with a BS Degree in civil engineering, or land surveying; or a combination of education and technical experience in a related field which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties listed in the minimum qualifications.
 
Special Requirements
If licensure is from another state, selected candidate must:
1. Provide licensure credentials from any other state at the interview or upon the hiring manager’s request.
2. Provide a copy of his or her application to DPOR for Virginia Licensure as a Land Surveyor or Survey Photogrammetrist, along with proof of payment for the same, to their immediate supervisor and Human Resources on or before the first day of work.
3. Obtain Virginia licensure within 12 months.

Surveyor/Instrument Operator - Wilmington, NC
Qualifications: 1-2 years of survey or construction staking experience.
Skill Requirements: experience with TDS data collection preferred. Duties include but are not limited to assignment to field crew to assist in data collection; operate surveying instruments, automatic levels and various survey related software; outside working conditions. Must be able to travel over rough terrain carrying equipment of up to forty pounds. Must enjoy working outside year-round and be able to withstand elements. Some overnight travel is required. Valid NC driver's license. Candidates will need to successfully pass a motor vehicle records check and functional assessment. 

 
Crew Chief - Wilmington, NC
Qualifications include: four (4) or more years' experience as a Crew Chief in construction staking; knowledge of TDS Software, Recon Collectors, GPS equipment; CAD experience preferred but not required; must have a valid NC driver's license.
Duties include, but are not limited to: being able to manage and mentor field personnel to ensure that project objectives are met and project is completed in a timely manner. Must be able to travel over rough terrain carrying equipment of up to forty pounds. Must enjoy working outside year-round and be able to withstand elements. Candidates will need to successfully pass a motor vehicle records check and functional assessment. 
 
Professional Land Surveyor - Wilmington, NC
Qualifications Include: Four (4) or more years' experience as a licensed surveyor in the state of North Carolina. Knowledge of construction staking, topographic surveys, boundary surveys and utility route surveys are required. Knowledge of TDS data collector software and Carlson office software required.
Duties include, but not limited to being able to manage and mentor field/office personnel to ensure that project objectives are met under budget and in a timely manner. Must be able to communicate clearly and efficiently to clients which are individual homeowners, contractors, developers and builders. Must be able to travel over rough terrain as job site visits are required. Candidate must have a valid NC driver's license. Candidates will need to successfully pass a motor vehicle records check and functional assessment.

Our firm has been providing Civil Engineering Design and Land Surveying services to our clients since 1993 and we have an immediate opening for motivated personnel in our expanding Land Surveying Department located in Charlotte, N.C.

Position requires a minimum 5-10 years’ experience (office or field) in Land Surveying with a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience utilizing ACAD. Should be proficient with AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred), have a solid background with office/field computations, platting and mapping, property research, experience scheduling and managing survey field crews, work well in a small office environment, be self-motivated and display a high standard of ethical conduct. Robotic, GPS and GIS surveying experience are a plus and LSIT or PLS licensure preferred but not required.
